I Am

I am a kid being evacuated
I wonder if I will ever see my parents again.
I hear the guns roaring like thunder
I see kids in the same position as me waitng for a train
I want my parents to come with me but they say they can't!

I am a kid being evacuated
I pretend not to care about coming back; when I do

I feel sad about leaving my home
I touch my lucky chain for luck
I worry for my parents going into battle.
I cry when I think of my parents in this war.

I am a kid being evacuated
I understand that I have to go away to be safe.
I say that my country is going to win
I dream that I am fighting for my country
I try not to worry about the war.
I hope that the war will be over and everything will be back to normal.

I am a kid being evacuated
