Sit at the table I try to think And the boys cast shadows That make me blink. The daughter says “Look!” As she points to the door ‘Cause she’s just after rising From wetting the floor! The eldest lad asks me “Dad is this a poem?” And Sean stands and laughs at me All on his own! Eamonn gets water to do us tonight And I hope for money To bring me delight! Mary comes in and lights up A wee butt Whereas I haven’t room To put foot over foot! I look at the time and I find it’s near eight Any goods got tonight Will go onto the ‘slate’! ‘Cause my pay isn’t here And I’m stark stony broke. I conclude on this line now And just have a smoke! |
