Needing to discover her secret

He had carefully hide in the shadow - in his endeavour to find out the truth.

Because he felt that he now had to learn

If his trust had been misplaced when it came to his darling Miss Ruth!

So he made up his mind to follow her there

Under the darkened Midsummer sky to where the castle did tower above!

And as he watched from the dark

She went alone on her quest - unaware of his doubting her love!

She crept to the door and lifted the latch

And he heard her whisper "I'm here now my precious - my dear!"

His mind in such turmoil and heart beating loud

He then stepped from the shadows and to the doorway he quickly drew near!

Aghast now he heard his darling Miss Ruth

As she whispered long and low (as he thought!) to some new and illicit love!

Imagine his shock when he opened that door

And discovered she had been secretly hiding his present - a beautiful snow-white dove!!
